Xiaomi Poco X3 NFC (2020) Review

Introduction

I recently got my hands on a Poco X3 NFC phone to replace my Yotaphone. Why the X3 you might ask? Feature-wise, the X3 is one of the fewer models in recent times to come with NFC support and it even comes with an IR blaster. These quirky features aside, the X3 is quite a strong contender when it comes to mid-range Android phones with decent storage, RAM, and processing power.

Working from Home

The world is faced with a global pandemic and this has resulted in many people practicing self isolation and some organizations to shift to remote work.
While some teams may have practiced remote work before, perhaps not many have done at this scale or just recently made the change. Here are some of my working from home tips to help ease the transition.

Amazon Fire 7 (2017) Review

Introduction

The Amazon Fire range of tablets have been around for quite some time and while they’re very popular in the States, they’re much rarer in Malaysia and is often found through special groups and retailers. Originally retailing around USD$50 (MYR 206) when it was first released back in May 2017, the price has seen dips to USD$20 during sales. I managed to snag one during from a local retailer for MYR 179 (USD$43). So what exactly is an Amazon Fire 7? In short, it’s Amazon’s entry level 7″ Android tablet which is heavily ad supported (presumably to subsidize its production cost). You’re probably thinking of the adage that cheap things aren’t great and great things aren’t cheap but let’s find out in my review of the Amazon Fire 7 (2017) if it’s still worth that USD50 asking price.

Review : Sprint Vector (PSVR)

Introduction

Sprint Vector(SV), developed by Survio, was an impulse purchase after hearing lots of rave reviews about it. I had to go through a lot of trouble just to get it from the US store. Luckily it was all worth it. From the same studio that brought us Raw Data, Sprint Vector is a completely different genre from their debut title. To describe it would be like a combination of Mario Kart and it’s zany obstacle race course with the gameplay of Mirror’s Edge powered by the Move controllers.

State of eCommerce in Southeast Asia 2017

This morning iPrice released their white paper on the state of eCommerce in Southeast Asia based on the data that they’ve collected from their partners around the region. The statistics provided by these reports gives us some pretty interesting insights into consumer behaviour in the past year. Among some of the interesting facts presented by the iPrice team was that despite Vietnam having the highest conversion rate among Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Philippines their payment method of choice was actually Cash on Delivery. This goes to show that sometimes eCommerce platforms are most successful when you cater to the needs of the consumer and the solution can be just as low tech.

Microsoft Surface Pro (2017) Review Part 2

Following up on my previous post, I’ll share my experience on my daily use with the Surface Pro.

Battery Life

I’ve been using the Surface almost daily for note taking, web browsing and watching videos during my trips. Battery life is actually quite solid with over 50% capacity left after 5 hours of usage. There’s been reported cases where users are able to stretch up to 14 hours of use in certain power saving conditions but it’s safe to say that it should be enough to last a day’s use.
